A couple of weeks ago, a friend at LaunchHouse (the coworking community I work at) let me know he was doing a standup comedy skit at East End Bistro & Pub in Lakewood. I live right down the street from East End, so I took advantage of the opportunity to support a friend, and check out a bar I’ve never been to before.
I have to admit, my expectations were low, both for the bar, and for the ten comedians that would be doing standup. From the outside, the bar looks a little shady. You can’t see inside (I never trust bars without windows!), it's not in the best location, and I've never heard anyone talk about it. Take a look:
Upon entering, I was pleasantly surprised! I expected a tired, dirty old looking dive bar, but it looks like the interior has been updated recently. Also, it looked quite clean. We were seated in a private party room for Comedy night. The seating was comfortable and the acoustics were good. No complaints atmosphere-wise!
As for the comedians, I knew I would be in for some laughs thanks to my friend, Alexis Edelman (aka “Alexis Comedian”), but I was skeptical about what I would hear from other amateur comedians. However, nearly all of the five minute skits had some good laughs in them. Alexis was certainly one of the funniest. If you know Alexis, you know he doesn’t even need to make stuff up to be funny – he’s a Jew from Argentina with twin girls. Stories from his everyday life have us cracking up during lunch at work.
I had low expectations for East End Bistro & Pub. I was satisfied with the overall experience, and I look forward to returning. Another Thursday evening with The Comedy Cabin at East End may be in the near future!
